Care Guide

At Belle & Aube our blankets are crafted from highest-quality natural fibres, including pure new wool and merino lambswool. These natural materials provide superior qualities in warmth, breathability, and softness, creating luxurious blankets that require a little extra love to maintain their exceptional quality for as long as possible.

Best Practices For Maintaining Merino and Pure New Wool

Air:

  • Shake blanket regularly to remove dust and refresh fibres.
  • Wool's natural odour resistance means less frequent washing is required and airing helps minimise the need even further.

Washing:

  • For the best quality wash we recommend dry cleaning both wools but merino wool must be dry cleaned.
  • Pure Wool Hand Wash: Use cold water and wool-specific detergent.
  • Gently agitate without wringing to prevent felting.
  • Do not wash your blanket in the washing machine. The heat can cause shrinkage, and the spinning can cause loss of shape.
  • When ironing pure wool, use a cool setting with a max temperature of 110 degrees Celsius. Merino wool has anti wrinkle properties so ironing is not recommended.

Drying:

  • Lay flat on clean towel, roll to remove excess water.
  • Hang to dry, ensuring even weight distribution.
  • Do not wring or tumble dry.

Storage:

  • To properly store wool blankets, keep them in a cool, dark place.
  • Use a breathable container like a cotton storage bag, and add natural moth deterrents like cedar chips or lavender sachets to protect against pests while ensuring the fabric can air out.

Maintenance:

  • Initial shed and pilling is normal; remove gently by hand or with a comb, lint roller, fabric shaver, or razor.
  • Not recommended as chair/sofa covers due to friction and wear.
